Mi Maestra La Luna

Just a little poem I wrote today 🙂 hope you like it!

The moon rises when all else has fallen

a night light for lovers

the sky’s winking mistress

who taught me how to love.

How to caress a sleeping face

to leave a silent kiss

and fade before morning

and let the sun do her damage.

She brightens your whole world

Hot and steamy is her m.o.

but señorita sunshine will burn you

if you lay with her too long.

Then, in the crisp night air

it’s bella luna who turns you on

with her midnight tango

and nocturnal voodoo trance.

She taught me to lay upon your bed

and never leave a dent

to light up your face

with nothing but my shadow.

Like the moon I catch your gravity

and dance through the night

until millions of pairs of eyes

close

cheers, allie xo

5 Years Time…

“In five years time we could be walking around the zoo

with the sun shining down over me and you”

I’m not sure exactly where I will be in five years but hanging out at a zoo wouldn’t be half bad 😉 So first, I think I should explain my “extended absence” from the internet. My excuse is pretty pathetic actually lol, I grounded myself from my blog because I am so far behind on my summer work that it’s nauseating 😦 It was either my blog or morning cartoons….don’t patronize, you would have picked the same thing! And, sadly I’m still not finished with all of my essays and movie analysisisis (how do you pluralize that?) As you can see, my brain is fried so I “ungrounded” myself to give myself a break. Yeah I see the irony or taking a break from writing by writing even more. Hey, what can I say, I sorta love writing 🙂

In case you have been wondering why I picked that quote from Noah and the Whale, it’s because as a rising senior, college has been dominating my thoughts. And I can’t help but wonder where I will be in five years. Wherever I end up, I hope I am “completely and incandescently happy” (Jane Austen).

A few days ago I was thinking a lot about college, and I have officially picked my number one. But I’m still too hesitant to actually post it here because I will be heartbroken if I can’t get in. In the meantime, just know that I have to work extremely hard to get in…

Oh yeah! My two little brothers just got their bedrooms redone and they are so proud of their new paint jobs. So if I decide to “unground” myself again you will be seeing a post dedicated to them and their new man caves 🙂

Cheers!

Senior portrait Time!

I found a way to cut it close again. With only a few weeks until the school year starts I finally found the perfect photographer! Most of the kids at my school go to the same studio to have their portraits done, but as my never-ending struggle to be unique has done many times before, I used up most of my time thinking about who would be best instead of physically searching. Luckily, I did make a great match and now all I can think about is my appointment (in just two short weeks!).

I chose Shawn Michael Photography because he takes beautiful pictures, and what other way should there be for picking a photographer? Both Ally and I are having out photos done here, but we didn’t realize it until the appointments were already made! Sometimes it scary how alike we are..first the name now everything else! But that’s what happens with best friends, right? 🙂

oh! you can see Shawn Michael here…

anywayy, between searching for inspiration for a new story, fresh jazz songs to play, and now cool outfits and poses for my portrait, I have immersed myself with Norah Jones! I haven’t had this blog for long, but as you will soon learn, I have this habit of drowning in a few particular artists when I’m short of inspiration until I am back on my creative track 🙂 I have gone through Jane Austen (when I watched Pride and Prejudice every night for one week straight and twice on Sunday), Jack Johnson (when I first was learning rhythmic guitar), and J K Rowling’s Harry Potter (but i was 10 so it was fine lol). There must have been others but I don’t want to name them all right now and bore you to death. All you have to know is that I am bouncing between about three different story ideas right now that I really like 😀 and that I found some really great photos I want to share here! This is just a quick collage I made for the blog so it’s not as particular as i would have liked. Anyway, here it is 🙂

I’m not sure how far apart these pictures were taken, but i would give it a span of about 5 years from the earliest to the ones from her newest Album “The Fall.”I adore her style and the was she sings. One day I hope I can write a song as beautiful as hers 🙂

I don’t own the rights to these pictures so please go to last.fm.com to see them 🙂 thanks!

as always,

Cheers! Allie xo

Indie Arts Fest!

RI Indie Arts festivalIndie Arts was so much fun! Even though I was only a short drive away it felt like I had taken a day trip because everything was so new and exciting 🙂 I have always wanted to go to one of these events but I never manage to get out there. Finally I did! Jen (my friend of 10+ years) and I were even caught on film by the local news reporter! I couldn’t find the live feed on the internet anywhere, but take my word for it; my back was on TV! The music was great, and the fact that I had never heard any of the songs before didn’t stop me from running back and forth from each stage to listen to as many as I could. There were some bands dressed up as animals, some were musicians/poets, and others just brought along their keyboards and synthesizers to play.

Boo City Indie Arts
Boo City was amazing

My view from where I was sitting lol

Apart from the eclectic music, I really wanted to see all of the independent art and score a few unique pieces…and I wasn’t disappointed 🙂 There was glass blowing, paintings, vintage clothes, handmade jewelry/crafts, and what looked like dozens of mobile pawn shops :). Needles to say, I was in heaven! I snapped a few pictures of the more beautiful things I wasn’t able to buy but I didn’t want to forget. I did buy a pair of lovely handmade earrings from Carole at Connect the Dots 🙂 visit her site here http://www.connectthedotscrafts.com/

So beautiful!

An addition to my owl obsession 😉

It was so beautiful and it took everything i had not to buy it 😦

But the day was still not over!! The ice skating rink had been drained for the summer season and then turned into a skate park filled with teenage boys jumping over ramps for our viewing pleasure 🙂 So Jen and I parked ourselves on the stone bleachers and I snapped photos of her favorites lol. So Jen, these are for you 😉

He was right in front of us for most of the time lol

He's flyinggg!

3..2..1..liftoff!

This little kid was by far the cutest 🙂 i want my future son to be like him!

Unfortunately, the skaters couldn’t stay forever because the ramps and rails were taken out to make way for a roller derby game! I couldn’t believe it! The only time I had ever seen roller derby was in the movie Whip It! and i couldn’t wait to see it in person. My dad had talked about how he used to watch it on TV with his brothers but, of course, this was before he became a “family man” lol. The lighting was getting poor, but here are some more pictures!

Zombies v. Robots

Things started to get intense at the end of the match!

When the sun started to go down, Burnside Park became the sight for an alien landing as these creatures from outer space came to reclaim the statue of the “inventor of ice cream,” general Burnside. Now, I’m not sure if he invented ice cream or not, but I do remember learning in 10th grade that they coined the term “sideburns” after his face 😛 He is the man in the first picture that they used on the sign lol. The aliens were a strange mix of horrifying and whimsical, but altogether endearing. Jen was fine until they began encircling us and staring at my giant black camera. This weird apparition really made the day 🙂

we come in peace

the old man just sat in the middle and watched the whole thing 🙂

I had so much fun and I can’t wait to go again next year! I promised my brother Chris that I would take him too because he and I both love this sort of thing. I’m sorry it took a while to get this whole thing up but I hope it was worth the wait 🙂

cheers, allie and the alien
